Only days after the official release of the newest Pokémon set, Twilight Masquerade, already we are seeing the power of Dragapult ex. The signs were there from events in Japan, where the cards are already tournament legal, and there has been a lot of hype around some of these cards upsetting some of the more popular decks in the current format. And whilst not entirely bulletproof, Dragapult ex's massive attack is making waves.
200 damage is a hefty blow, albeit not the OHKO on most of the bigger mons, but the additional 6 damage counters to the bench will make short work of a lot of basic cards that haven't had a chance to evolve. Pair that with the big 320HP of the stage 2 dragon, and you have a resilient and powerful attacker. The question is, how are you going to make the most of it with supporting Pokémon and trainer cards?
One option is to use Professor Turo's Scenario to ensure you don't give up prize cards while recycling some of those important cards. Another is to make use of Erika's Invitation to try and put a mushy target on the bench to take some of those additional damage counters. Then there is the draw engine choice - Bibarel, Dudunsparce, or Xatu's Clairvoyant Sense?
I think there will be a lot of Dragapult ex decks appearing, and maybe it will take the crown from the fire dragon himself - time will tell.
